DIFFERENT TYPES OF FLOODS
RIVERINE FLOODS- basically, this refers to river floods. When a river reaches floodstage water can rise and spill over the banks. The amount of flooding is dependent on the amount of rainfall, the saturation of the soil and the land around the river.
COASTAL FLOODS- occurs along the edges of oceans, and is driven mostly by storm surges and wave changes. URBAN FLOODS- this type of flood occurs in densely populated areas and is caused mainly when drainage systems are overwhelmed by heavy rainfalls.
FLASH FLOODS- gather steam within the first six hours of the events that initially caused them. They are characterized by a rapid rise of fast-moving water, which is extremely dangerous.
